About Us
The Global Alliance to Prevent Prematurity and Stillbirth (GAPPS) launched as an initiative of Seattle Children’s in 2007. GAPPS collaborates with an international team of experts and strategic partners to improve birth outcomes and help reduce maternal and child deaths. Our alliance includes a diverse group of stakeholders from developing and developed countries:
- Researchers
- Healthcare practitioners
- United Nations and government agencies
- Nonprofits
- Philanthropists
- Family advocacy groups
Why We Were Initiated by Seattle Children’s
Seattle Children’s has made significant contributions to pediatric research for more than two decades. Despite advances in maternal and child health, Seattle Children’s recognized prematurity and stillbirth as growing crises needing local and global attention. Seattle Children’s also identified prematurity as a research priority, as many patients suffer serious health problems from premature birth.
Where We are Located
GAPPS’ headquarters, located in Seattle, is situated close to the Seattle Children's Research Institute, and is in the center of a thriving biotechnology hub that includes the University of Washington, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and more than a dozen other research organizations, hospitals and nonprofits engaged in finding innovative solutions to global health problems.
